From Intention to Action — Introducing the V2MOM Tracker

Welcome to the third in the series of blogs exploring weekly and monthly rhythms – small, repeatable ways to bring more intentionality to our days. This blog considers how you stay connected to your bigger hopes over the long haul,

V2MOMs are powerful tools for clarifying what matters and outlining how you’ll move forward. (You can check out our V2MOM introduction here). But we are well aware that  even the clearest vision can drift without a way to revisit and track it over time. The V2MOM Tracker bridges the gap between aspiration and implementation. It gives your long-term goals some shape, visibility, and momentum.

Why This Matters

If you’ve ever felt that your V2MOMs start strong but fizzle by month three, you’re not alone. Without a practical structure for review and progress, it’s easy for big goals to sit quietly in a notebook or file somewhere.

The Tracker is about staying connected to the journey — not perfectly, but consistently. It helps you:

  • Turn Methods into milestones you can work toward
  • Keep multiple V2MOMs in view without overwhelm
  • Feel the satisfaction of small wins
  • Learn as you go and adapt in real time

So How Does It Work?

The key is adding a layer of Milestones to each V2MOM. Here’s how:

Step 1: Group Your Methods

Start with the Methods section of your V2MOM. You’ll often have a mix of habits, ideas, and actions. Group similar ones together. For example our ‘Plot to Plate’ V2MOM is focused on the development of vegetable garden to support physical and mental well being as well as enabling some fab meals to be produced with minimal food miles etc. And the Methods section is:

Methods:

  • Kick start some preliminary planting for 2025 (3 to 4 basic beds)
  • Research/Skill Development
    • Research companion planting etc for pest control
    • Research crop rotation
  • Plan / Design longer term Veggie Plot
  • Build
    • Veggie beds
    • Build Soft fruit cage
    • Lay paths / walk ways
    • Trees/orchard area
    • Sort out composting area
    • Install greenhouse
    • Watering / irrigation for beds (rain water capture)
  • Rotational Planting ongoing
  • Maintain
    • Growing areas
    • Pathways and borders
    • Infrastructure
      • Greenhouses
      • Compost area
      • Water/irrigation system

Step 2: Define Milestones

Keep in mind that real life is rarely linear. You might be running several tasks in parallel; for example, getting vegetables in the ground before you’ve installed paths or wooden borders. And that’s okay. These projects can be iterative, flexing with the seasons, your energy, your budget, and the weather.

  1. Quick wins planted for 2025
  2. Maintain 2025 Veggies
  3. Research on layout / rotational methods / pest control
  4. Compost area sorted
  5. Final Beds dug and borders created
  6. Paths / walkways in
  7. Greenhouse installed
  8. 2026 planting started (in greenhouse)
  9. 2026 outdoor planting
  10. Soft fruit cages in place
  11. Orchard planned and taking shape

Step 3: Add a Timeframe

Give each milestone a rough timeline – month, season, or quarter. This lets you work out what belongs in your Monthly Rhythm template.

Step 4: Use the Tracker

Set up a simple table to track status and learning over time:

Don’t Let This Become Homework

This isn’t about pressure. It’s about keeping what matters visible. You don’t have to update it weekly. A glance at the end of each month (as part of your Monthly Rhythm) might be all you need. The objective here is to encourage rather than overwhelm. It’s to help you notice progress, stay aligned with your goals, and gently course-correct when needed

Sometimes, just seeing the next step is enough to keep going.

In the final blog of this series, we’ll explore how to prioritise which V2MOMs to focus on each month and how to stay realistic when energy or time is limited.
