Welcome to the fourth and final blog in the series resulting from comments received about the Weekly Rhythm Template. This blog is focused on Prioritising that most precious resource – Time.
With a life that kind of revolves around BHAGS and V2MOMs I soon realised that there are some things absolutely had to happen at a specific time – like getting veggies in the ground before the season passes. Others, like sorting my inbox or decluttering files, weren’t urgent, but I realised just how much they were slowing me down. That’s when it hit me: not all priorities shout. Some just quietly unlock a smoother, saner life.
So how do we choose what to focus on, when everything seems worthwhile?
A Simple Framework to Help You Prioritise
When you have multiple V2MOMs in play, it can feel like everything is competing for your attention. But not all tasks are equal. Here’s a simple filter to help you:
| Priority Question | Example | Action |
| Is there a deadline or seasonal window? | Planting veg, booking holiday | Schedule it early in the month |
| Will this task make everything else easier or clearer? | Inbox zero, calendar reset | Prioritise it early even without a deadline |
| Does this support my emotional, physical or mental health? | Taking a digital Sabbath, regular walk | Protect time for it weekly |
| Can it be done quickly with a big payoff? | Clearing 10GB of clutter | Block 90 mins and get it done |
You might find it helpful to reflect on this as part of your Monthly Rhythm Template. Use the “What I need more or less of” section to surface pain points or big wins. Then, as you identify your focus for the month, run each idea through this filter.
Task Tagging: A Practical Way to See What Matters Most
To make prioritisation even easier, you can tag tasks as one of the following:
🟠 Need To Do – Time-dependent or deadline-driven tasks (e.g. plant before frost, book event)
🟢 Good To Do – Brings benefits to mental clarity, finances, or life flow (e.g. declutter inbox, fix calendar)
🔵 Like To Do – Things that bring joy but aren’t urgent (e.g. exploring a new hobby)
🟣 Rituals / Practices – Regular actions that support wellbeing and consistency (e.g. daily movement, weekly tech detox, monthly reflection)
Including these in your planner helps you make sure that:
- You don’t forget the things that sustain you
- You stay focused on what really matters
- You bring balance into each month
Let Prioritisation Be Practical, Not Perfect
Some things will always be messy. Take our veggie plot: we dug and planted before the paths were in or the beds were finished. Sometimes it makes sense to run tasks in parallel or to focus on what moves the project forward—even if it isn’t in ideal order.
That’s the reality of living intentionally. You build as you go, iterate when needed, and make peace with progress over perfection.
Over to you: What are your Top 3 priority items this month? Are they Need To Do, Good To Do, Like To Do or Rituals?
For me, it’s the rituals that need more attention. I’m good at handling the “Need To Dos,” but sticking to four workouts a week? That keeps getting demoted—and I know it makes a big difference.
